Description
The Interim Finance Director position leads financial management, people and culture, information technology and governance for the global organisation. This encompasses direct management of central teams and functional leadership across all operating units. It is accountable to the CEO, the board and its two committees.
The role is responsible for a range of governance processes and, with the CEO and key board members, for coordinating the work of the board and its committees. It also oversees governance of a range of subsidiary entities in the UK and operating countries.
The scope of the role is broad and complex and involves taking responsibility for the financial sustainability as well as overseeing systems and compliance across Finance, IT and People and Culture, both in the UK and in the Country and Regional Offices. The strategic challenges and breadth of the work demand an adaptable person prepared to take on a wide range of tasks and responsibilities and requires creative problem solving skills, an analytical mind and good judgement.
Financially the post is responsible for the total budget and for managing the reserves, cash-flow and balance sheet.
The role has close working relationships with: the CEO; members of the Strategic Leadership Team; the Chair of the Finance, Audit and Risk Committee; The Chair of the Governance and People Committee; and External Audit Partner. You will be expected to work particularly closely with and understand the needs and priorities of the Fundraising, Marketing and Communications Director and the International-Programmes Director. While the role is primarily focused on strategic management at the group level they are expected to understand and accommodate the operational needs and realities of country programmes.
Profile
The successful candidate for the Interim Finance Director position will have extensive experience in managing a complex finance function and will ideally have experience of managing other areas such as HR (People and Culture) and IT departments.
You will be fully qualified ACCA, ACA, CIMA or CIPFA
- Ability to think strategically and develop operational solutions to meet strategic needs.
- A record of post-qualification achievement in financial management roles
- Experience of working at board level
- Exceptional technical accountancy skills and a high degree of numeracy
- Experience of working in a complex, multi-entity, multi-currency financial environment
- Excellent analytical reasoning abilities
- Good understanding of modern financial systems structures and use
- Good understanding of modern IT systems and risks
- Good written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex concepts in straightforward ways and across language and cultural barriers
- Good managerial skills: ability to prioritise, organise, manage and deliver on complex and changeable priorities; ability to motivate teams; ability to influence senior stakeholders, co-create viable business solutions and work to common agendas
- High levels of resilience and tenacity: proven ability to overcome obstacles
- A commitment and enthusiasm for personal and team learning and development
- Prior knowledge and experience of the International Development and / or Charity Sectors is desirable but not essential.
Job Offer
A negotiable Fixed Term Contract for an initial 6 Month period
