Our client is a start-up business with the backing of a FTSE100 company. The mandate of this new organisation will be to build and maintain 5G communications networks. The business will have a number of revenue models and the size of contracts with range in value from £1m-£5m for trials and up to £100m when fully engaged. These contracts will run for between 7 and 20 years.

As part of their swift development as a business they are seeking to recruit a Commercial & Finance Director to undertake the challenging role of establishing and enhancing the rigorous financial management of the company, whilst at the same time showing sufficient commercial acumen to ensure that our client delivers on cost and within budget on all aspects of its work. To do this will require the successful candidate to marry up strategic finance with commercial direction to drive, guide and support the Managing Director in delivering on-time and on-budget. You will work with prospects, customers, partners and suppliers to ensure that the right risk appetite is maintained and that there is a consistent focus on mitigations to present our client as leader transport communications. 

Role & Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Managing Director, the new appointee will be expected to conduct the following tasks:

Finance Management 

  • Strategic finance, clear exit management and valuation
  • Financial controls, tax, accounting and compliance including audit 
  • Strong cost management, aligned to procurement and supplier relationships 
  • Financial modelling for budgets, bids, business cases, ongoing delivery programmes, investor/valuation modelling
  • Wider risk management 

Commercial Management: 

  • Procurement & supplier management, including approval of all delivery programme variations 
  • Customer contracts 
  • Bid management 
  • Client billing 

The Successful Candidate:

You will be educated to degree level and be a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA) and potentially have a post graduate qualification such as an MBA. You will possess the following skills and experience:

  • Financial and commercial management experience in a growth industry with high value contracts 
  • Some infrastructure experience in procuring and managing strategic suppliers 
  • Strong budgeting/forecasting and business case modelling capability 
  • Ability to apply analytical insight to support fast and accurate decision making with robust justifications 
  • Focus on risk management to optimize ROI, valuation and net profits
  • Advanced modelling capability allied to a strong understanding of market and assets 
  • Interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Strong written and spoken English, ideally with a second European language
