Financial Controller / Company Accountant | Barnsley | £40,000 - £50,000

The Opportunity

Are you a finance professional who enjoys being the key finance contact for a smaller owner-managed business?

This is ‘number 1 in finance’ for a well-established group that can offer a high degree of job security.   You’ll need to be a hands-on and commercially astute accountant with solid technical accounting skills.

You’ll enjoy a high degree of variety and plenty of autonomy.  You’ll be given the freedom to shape the existing controls and processes and develop the existing reporting as you see fit.

The role reports directly to the MD of the group and you will be a vital financial sounding board- offering him support to control risks and opportunity to optimise the business (and in turn the profitability).

All aspects of financial control, reporting and management accounting will sit in your remit.  You’ll manage a small team (3) who will support with the nitty gritty / transactional requirements.

There is scope for the business to continue to deliver impressive growth and for your remit to increase / your career to develop.

The Directors are looking for an experience and confident accountant (ideally qualified or QBE) who has previous experience as Company Accountant / Finance Manager / FC within a thriving SME (or division / subsidiary of a larger group).

You will need:

  • The ability to manage all aspects of the day to day accounting and reporting for a smaller business (£10m - £20m turnover bracket).
  • Ability to improve controls and processes.
  • A confident communication style and experience of working closely with an MD / business owner ideally.
  • A high degree of proactivity when it comes to solving problems, meeting deadlines and managing month end.
  • Confident IT skills
