SF Recruitment are supporting a private equity backed tech & engineering service provider as they seek to add an experienced Project Cost Controller to their Finance team based in Coventry.
Responsibilities include:
-Deputise for the Financial Controller as required
-Lead the monthly project reporting process for all individual companies within the group
-Consolidate project reporting to group finance
-Application of IRFS15 in a construction/project based environment
-Managing project accounting to be recognised as a centre of excellence within the organisation and in its dealings with external stakeholders
-Responsibility for all internal and external project reporting requirements to strict deadlines
-Develop models and processes to monitor project performance across P&L, balance sheet and cash flows
-The key finance team contact for all project accounting matters
-Developing management information system to deliver real time commercial advantages
-Developing strong business relationships with other functions within the organisation to help guide and support them in developing greater project understanding and decision making
-Maintenance of project reporting processes and procedures within the company to ensure compliance at all times
-Continually enhance the in-house cost control functions to provide in-depth financial analysis across a wide portfolio of projects
Accountable for:
-Project related ledger and financial records
-Oversight of periodic project reporting, including WIP, Cost to complete, deferred and accrued income, retentions, and contingencies
-Project Budgets & Reforecasts - Preparation, consultation and monitoring
-Job Costing - financial oversight including review of revenue recognition and performance analysis
-Project Reporting - Month end close with supporting balance sheet reconciliations analysis & commentaries
-Develop, support and mentor other members of the finance team
-Audit - Year end close, full reporting and liaison with auditors
-Tax - consideration of project related tax impacts (with advisor support)
-Control Environment - Maintenance and improvement of Systems and control
-Vendors - communicate impacts of cash flow management decisions on project performance
-Customers - oversight to ensure prompt and accurate contract applications, confirmations and billings are completed
-Provide regulatory and insurance requirements and financial input to bids and project execution in conjunction with other departments
-Support the bid review process through costing analysis, assessing cash flows and interrogating assumptions
-Prepare consolidated project accounts and periodic regional information for the group and external stakeholders
-Be the primary point of contact for all project related audit field work
-Support analysis and management of working capital to maximise cash benefits for the company
-Analysis of project budgets and forecasts including resource plans, sub-contractors, procurement and overheads
-Assist the FC in the preparation of annual budgets and rolling financial projections.
-Prepare consolidated rolling 26-week project cash flow forecasts
-Educate and support managers to understand project accounting requirements and how this can inform better business solutions
-Partner with project budget holders to assess costs and ideas for better controls, phasing and spend
-Compliance with internal reporting and external audit obligations
-To compile and present a consistent and accurate accounts pack to the board
-To continually enhance reporting systems
Person Specification:
- Experience within a relevant industry.
- At least 5 years' experience in a similar project accounting role.
- Ability to work autonomously and be proactive as required, taking responsibility for self and others.
- Ability to influence others through persuasive arguments based on data and factual evidence.
- Keen analytic, organization and problem-solving skills which allows for strategic data interpretation versus. simple reporting.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Experience in effectively communicating key data, including presentations to senior management, or other outside partners.
- Ability and desire to translate complex project related accounting concepts to individuals at all levels including finance and non-finance managers.
- Effective and collaborative change management in line with strategic objectives.
- Ability to look continuously for opportunities for improvement and to develop strategies for change
