Group Accountant required for a thriving business based in Hertford, to take ownership of financial controls, report to the FD and be a key interface between the accounting team and senior management. This position will manage a small team and have overall responsibility for all aspects of the accounts function.

Assignment Details

  •  Assume end to end accurate record keeping and full financial accounting responsibility.
  • Implement and support policy as required and agreed with the Management Directors & Chairman
  • Maintain the operational performance of the Accounts Team.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with all stakeholders; this position will play a key role within the newly restructured team.
  • Assume overall responsibility for the staff payroll and the pension scheme, keeping up to date with all legislative changes and ensuring monthly submissions are sent accurately and on time.
  • Keep up to date, timely and accurate accounting records
  • Produce periodic management accounts, monthly, quarterly and annually and financial reports
  • Review and process expenditure in line with agreed budgets
  • Produce the annual budget with regular re-forecasting
  • Oversee statutory accounting and external reporting, and leading the annual audit.
  • Take ownership of the balance sheet, ensuring regular reconciliations and structured reviews
  • Manage inter-company reconciliations and third-party cross charges
  • Take responsibility for producing statutory accounts. Manage all taxation, including VAT returns (monthly and quarterly) and monthly FPS, EPS and CIS submissions. Also, preparation of draft corporation tax calculations
  • Preparation of cash flow statements and forecasts

Skills Required

  • Qualified Accountant – minimum ACCA
  • Minimum of 5 years PQE
  • Strong analytical and financial modelling skills
  • Experience of financial control, reporting and budgeting
  • Ability to work autonomously
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal to routinely deal with internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills to work with the finance team and wider businesses
  • Strong MS Excel skills to include VLOOKUP’s, pivots etc
  • Experience of accounting systems and BI tools
  • Good knowledge of current technical accounting and reporting requirements
  • Good knowledge of both direct and indirect tax compliance
  • Good knowledge of PAYE payroll and workplace pension rules
  • A knowledge of employment-led tax legislation (CIS, IR35, Intermediaries Reporting Legislation, etc.) would be helpful
  • Demonstrate agility with the ability to work to tight deadlines
  • Commercially astute with a flexible approach to the role
  • Drive an ethos of ‘right first time’
  • Day to day supervision of a small team
