Job Title: Group Financial Accountant

Base location: Hook

Salary: Up to £80,000

At Serco, there’s no such thing as one size fits all, how can there be when one minute you’re considering prison operations in the UK and the next how we account for an ice breaking ship in Antarctica? The chances are you’ll have also had to think about military bases in the US or cleaning malls in Dubai along the way too! Once you’ve done this, it’s then your role to turn understanding into action so that we have something that everyone across our finance community, from junior analysts to the CFO, can understand.

And it doesn’t stop there. Whilst the nitty-gritty of our accounting manual will be yours to maintain, so will the education and understanding of our global finance teams. You will be expected to be able to communicate complex concepts simply, to enable our community of finance colleagues to implement those standards via training and development activities to make sure that we’re delivering against our own standards consistently.

As our new Financial Accountant, you will join the high-profile Serco Group Reporting Team, which is responsible for consolidating and reporting the results of the Group’s global operations. This includes the production of all External Reporting and analysis to Executive Management and the Board. This role will be central to understanding the impact of accounting standards on the Group’s accounting policies, assessing the impact of changes to either accounting standards or the Group’s operations, and acting as a reference point for technical queries.

In return we can offer the chance to work with a team focused on your development, a supportive and collaborative environment that respects work/life balance and ultimately contributes to the delivery of vital public services in the UK.

What you’ll need to do the role

Firstly, you’ll need to be a qualified accountant with demonstrable post qualification experience. You’ll need strong financial reporting and technical accounting skills (IFRS), ideally with proven experience of listed plc reporting either from practice or another role in industry. You’ll be a strong team player who can demonstrate a proactive approach to problem solving with good communication skills to build divisional relationships. Lastly, experience of working with SAP BPC consolidation software would be beneficial, but is not essential.

Why Serco?

Meaningful and vital work: As part of the Serco Reporting team, you’ll be able to strongly influence the finance divisions’ efforts that help us to deliver essential services that make a real difference to society.

A world of opportunity: Working for a globally operating business delivering essential services across 5 vital sectors, you can build a fulfilling career doing work aligned to your strengths and interests.

Great people: You’ll find yourself working with a variety of highly motivated, supportive and experienced colleagues, where no two days are the same.

What we offer

  • Up to £80,000 basic salary.
  • Bonus scheme.
  • Car allowance.
  • Contributory pension scheme
  • An autonomous and supportive culture.
  • The chance to make a positive difference to public sector services.
