A qualified accountant is needed for a new and exciting Financial Planning and Analysis Manager role

Your new company

My client is the UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology and they are a not-for-profit, independent research centre with over 50 years' experience of monitoring and modelling environmental change and generating evidence-driven solutions to complex environmental challenges. They seek to understand our environment, how it sustains life, and humanity's impact on it. Their 50­0 staff (across 4 UK sites) and post graduate students provide the data and understanding that governments, businesses and researchers need to build thriving human and ecological communities. UKCEH is a well-funded and well established national research organisation whose long-term strategic delivery partnership with the Natural Environment Research Council, part of UK Research and Innovation, provides for some 40% of our current £43m turnover. The remainder of their funding derives from a range of sources across the public and private sector. With increasing public and government focus on the environment, the market and organisation is expected to grow substantially in the next few years.


Your new role

The Financial Planning & Analysis Manager is a key position in UKCEH with responsibility for supporting business leaders and managers make best use of resources and ensuring that business plans and decisions are financially sound.

The post holder will manage one other member of staff and be responsible for their performance management and development.

Reporting to the Head of Finance, the post holder will also work closely with the Financial Accounting and Reporting Manager and Decision Support Accountants as well as the wider finance team.


What you'll need to succeed

Qualifications:

  • Qualified accountant (ICAEW/CIMA/ACCA/CIPFA)


Demonstrates:

  • Deep experience & knowledge in financial analysis.
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Ability to work at a detailed level but also see the big picture
  • Proactive and able to take a leading role when required
  • Collaborative approach to problem solving and building relationships with stakeholders at all levels
  • Strong day to day operational focus as well as ability to think strategically for long term success
  • Clear communication both orally and in writing - can explain financial concepts and figures to a non-finance audience.
  • Able to support decision making, influencing and challenging when necessary
  • Skills in people management and development
  • Strong development orientation, willing to grow own skills & knowledge
  • Models and promotes the organisational values of Integrity, Teamwork and Excellence
  • A commitment to environmental science and the work of UKCEH


Desirable:

  • Knowledge or experience of Charity accounting and reporting requirements
  • Knowledge of public sector funding requirements
  • Good ERP experience, preferably in Workday
  • Experience or knowledge of financial management of scientific research projects
