Are you a qualified accountant, with a strong background working at a strategic and operational level in either financial or management accounting? Do you have a comprehensive understanding of current accounting policies and standards, including HE/FE SORP, and VAT regulations? If so we would welcome your application for the Research & Innovation Project Accountant.

The Finance Department aims to provide, in a cost efficient, professional and timely manner, services that allow the University to meet its statutory financial obligations and internal financial management objectives.

Leading and actively managing the Research & Innovation Accounts team, the Research & Innovation Project Accountant will be responsible for the post-award financial and project management of externally funded research & innovation projects. In this post you will be responsible for the effective and efficient handling and reporting of research & innovation project finances on behalf of the University, ensuring that funds are maximised for the purposes for which they were obtained.

As Research & Innovation Project Accountant you will:

  • Ensure strong financial control of all research and innovation projects, ensuring that income, expenditure, provisions, debtors and creditors are correctly recognised
  • Provide financial information relating to research for external returns and work closely with Research & Innovation Services to ensure that research & innovation finance is fully integrated into wider processes
  • Act as liaison between the Finance Division and Research & Innovation services (RIS), working closely with the Head of Research & Innovation Support and Governance
  • Provide strategic support to the Financial Accounting Manager regarding matters relating to Research & Innovation financial and project management.

To be successful in the Research & Innovation Project Accountant role you will have/be:

  • Professionally qualified (CCAB or equivalent)
  • Strong experience in a financial or management accounting role in a complex organisation working at a strategic and operational level
  • A comprehensive understanding of current accounting policies and standards, including HE/FE SORP, and VAT regulations, coupled with experience of all aspects of financial management and financial reporting
  • An understanding and/or appreciation of the HE sector and the key challenges and strategic issues facing research and innovation in a HE environment
