Director of Corporate Governance & Stewardship
London-based (minimum of two days’ working in Chartered Accountants’ Hall, City of London)
Attractive salary (c £100k plus generous benefits package)
Full-time
The importance of corporate governance is growing in the economy and society. Corporate scandals emphasise the need for boards to effectively challenge the behaviours and performance of executives. The transition to net zero and addressing climate change requires strong governance and risk management at the top of organisations. The needs and priorities of numerous stakeholders, not merely shareholders, require active management and balancing. Underpinning all such trends is the increasing importance of stewardship, the responsible allocation, management and oversight of capital to create long-term value and sustainable benefits for the economy, environment and society.
Chartered accountants are often at the heart of strong corporate governance and stewardship, providing not only the technical skills in terms of analysing and measuring and reporting, but also positive values and behaviours such as integrity, insight and transparency. Society, stakeholders and individual organisations look to chartered accountants and their professional body for thought leadership, policy work and practical guidance to boards and senior executives to improve corporate governance and stewardship.
We wish to recruit a Director of Corporate Governance & Stewardship. This is a brand-new role, designed to raise ICAEW’s profile and reputation on matters relating to corporate governance and effective and responsible stewardship of organisations. You will be the foremost policy expert on these matters within ICAEW, able to command respect from stakeholders through your reputation and quality of your content. You will lead on producing and communicating thought leadership, policy and practical support in this area, while also harnessing and cultivating the views of members and other subject-matter experts through our Corporate Governance Committee and Community. You will also become a member of Reputation & Influence’s Management Team and will contribute in a collaborative and proactive way to the delivery of ICAEW’s strategy.
The successful candidate will ideally have already built a strong reputation in corporate governance and stewardship matters. They will have proved themselves as able to deliver high profile thought leadership projects and successfully communicate them with stakeholders, including media. They will be able to demonstrate working with boards of FTSE companies as well as performing well in a variety of media. They will have strong people skills, able to work positively in a team of high performing individuals, as well as being a leader in their own right.
