Overview of the role:

We are looking to appoint a self-motivated and commercially orientated Management Accountant to deal with all aspects of Management accounts, overseeing of the Company Balance sheet and to provide business advisory support.
 

Key Responsibilities :

  • Perform and review balance sheet reconciliations
  • Complete financial reporting pack
  • Development of the monthly management pack and KPI’s
  • Communicate and interpret financial data to non-financial managers
  • Stock, trend, and margin analysis
  • Ensure adequate financial controls, procedures and schedules are in place
  • Evaluate and monitor financial information systems and recommend improvements where needed
  • Identify problem areas and present recommendations to Finance Director
  • Perform audits of departments within the organisation
  • Liaise with auditors and other external reporting authorities
  • Assist with annual budget preparation
  • Review income statements, balance sheet and other financial documents with business partners 
  • Preparation of the monthly management pack for Usborne Community Partnerships
  • Ensure timely VAT, and business survey reporting for Usborne Community Partnerships
  • Oversee withholding tax workings
  • Supervising & mentor other accounting team members
  • Review of stock levels, supply chain and title profitability analysis, making recommendations to the FD and Sales team to reduce excess stock holding
     

Experience

The successful candidate will be a qualified accountant or be qualified with experience (public practice experience additionally desirable) and will ideally have trained in Business Advisory, looking after SME to medium sized businesses, including international and group companies. They will have advanced Excel, a working knowledge of SAP B1 and be competent working with other systems and software. Knowledge of the publishing industry and familiarity of royalties and bonuses in this context would be advantageous.

Self-motivated and proactive the right candidate will be able to work independently and creatively to resolve issues and problem-solve, possess good communication skills and be able to effectively work with a wide range of stakeholders and staff. You will be as happy getting your sleeves rolled up with the team as you are applying your strategic thinking to complex financial policies, processes and problems.
 

Location and Benefits

We offer a 35-hour working week and this role will be based in our Farringdon office in London with occasional travel to our Oxford office. Once you have passed your probationary period, you will be able to work from home under our 3:2 work arrangement where you can work up to 2 days a week from home.
