Resourcery Group are working on a retained assignment on behalf of a global, rapidly growing Manufacturing business to recruit a Commercial Finance Director to act as a business partner and sounding board to the CEO, whilst overseeing the commercial FP&A team.  Private equity-backed, the business is pursuing both an aggressive acquisition and organic growth strategy, bolting on relevant, value-adding acquisitions, whilst investing heavily in R&D capabilities and new products.  As such, the business is forecast to double in revenue to $1.5bn in the next 5 years.  
Commercial, growing, acquisitive, strategic in focus, partnering the CEO - this is a true Commercial Finance Director role in a global business. 

The Commercial Finance Director is a critical role within the business providing strategic support to the Board and CEO, advising on commercial and operational decision making, helping shape the future of the business and driving delivery of an aggressive growth target over the next 5 years.  Leading a team of senior divisional Finance Business Partners, the Commercial Finance Director will ensure that all divisions receive the business insights and commercial decision-making support needed to grow and manage their businesses.  As Commercial Finance Director you will drive and deliver business performance through financial analysis and commercial business insight.  Collectively, the Commercial Finance team are responsible for budgeting and forecasting, variance analysis, capital project analysis,  revenue/pricing analysis, and ad-hoc projects as directed by the CEO and Board. 

Working on a global basis, the Commercial Finance Director will need to be an expert business partner who possesses strength of personality, gravitas, self-awareness and belief in one's decision making, capable of influencing a broad range of cross-functional stakeholders on an international basis.  Capable of taking a more holistic view and seeing Finance as a value-creator and integrated part of the decision-making process, the Commercial Finance Director will galvanise the existing Commercial Finance team and pull them forward as one, creating and consolidating the group in to a commercial finance business partnering function delivering numbers in a meaningful manner to non-finance stakeholders.

The detailed team responsibilities cover:
  • The provision of first class commercial financial analysis and insight to senior leadership enabling more informed commercial and strategic decisions-making
  • Delivering key financial information, such as budgeting and forecasting, performance reporting, profitability insight, KPI dashboards etc.
  • Analytical support to sales and marketing for customer pricing and profitability analysis
  • Guidance/insight/analysis of the 'make and buy' decisions, capital investments, acquisitions, and commercial agreements.

Applicants should:

  • Be a qualified accountant - CIMA, ACCA or ACA.
  • Be a tenured senior Head of FP&A, Head of Commercial Finance or Commercial Finance Director.
  • Be an excellent senior leader and stakeholder manager, capable of leading and developing teams, rolling out and embedding a business partnering culture.
  • Take a more holistic view of the role of finance in business and develop a culture of partnership, engagement, adaptability and value creation.
  • Be adaptable to change in a rapidly growing and acquisitive business.
  • Experience of working in Manufacturing, Automotive, FMCG, Consumer Products, Chemicals, Medical, Pharmaceutical sectors is critical.
  • Experience of working for a foreign-owned business and of working in a global role is critical (US experience is not).
  • Most important of all, applicants must be capable of delivering real change and not just capable of pointing out problems.
