Qualified Financial Controller for a SME business near Solihull.

Hays are working with an acquisitive and growing services organisation based near Solihull. The company have a superb open and fun culture and are looking for a Financial Controller to join the team.
Your new role
We are looking for a Qualified Financial Controller who will report into the CFO and lead a small and established accounts team and day to day control.
Day to day, you'll be accountable for:
- Direct Line Management Responsibility for the Transactional Finance Team which includes sales ledger, purchase ledger, payroll, overheads and fixed assets.
- Lead the month end close process, including critical analysis of first draft Overheads and Balance Sheet results.
- Ensure key monthly variances (vs forecast, budget and last year) are fully understood, reported and remedial activities actioned for overheads and People costs.
- Responsible for aged debt collections, payment runs and supplier management.
- Prepare, review and process month-end journals (accruals, prepayments, allocations, etc.) as appropriate, including review and sign-off of direct reports.
- Day-today management of the core accounting system, including implementing improvements and reducing the number of incorrectly recorded transactions.
- Develop and provide business partnering services within the Finance Team and across the wider business.
- Review of VAT returns before submission.
- Review of the Fixed Asset Register.
- Assist with the completion of year end statutory accounts and reconciliations to the management accounts
- Lead input for the year-end audit process.
- Assist with budgeting and forecasting.
- Support the organisation with its strategic projects
- Ensure the national statistics office returns are completed on time.
- Be accountable for other ad hoc tasks
What you'll need to succeed
You will be a Qualified Accountant and have several years post Qual experience. You will have a proven track record working in a busy SME environment and be adaptable and able to cope with a changing environment. Advanced excel and strong systems skills are also a pre-requisite.
