Financial Controller

6 to 9 months FTC

Reporting into COO and will manage the Financial Accountant and the Senior Finance Officer

A leading independent research institute, with an income of £18m seeking a qualified accountant with charity experience to assist with year-end financial reporting, production of Annual Reports and Accounts and related external audit processes.

The Financial Controller will also be the lead contact internally for IT.

Main responsibilities of the role (but not limited to):

  • Maintain oversight of transactional input, ensuring that adequate internal financial controls are maintained to minimise the risk of fraud or error and to provide quality assurance over financial data
  • Identify any improvements to the finance system, processes, monitoring and reporting and oversee implementation and communication of changes.
  • Manage key contracted services
  • In conjunction with brokers and the Operations Manager, ensure that the charity carries appropriate insurance cover to protect its assets, and for all aspects of its operational activities
  • Monitor cash and update cashflow forecasts to ensure the Institute is able to meet its obligations at all times
  • Regular monitoring and approval of schedules of fixed assets and depreciation, prepayments, accruals and other balance sheet items
  • Maintain an asset register
  • Oversee and monitor the management accounts for expenditure of support functions, identifying key metrics and efficiently communicating variances on a timely basis
  • Coordinate and be the internal lead for the implementation of IT related services and products within the organisation.
  • Manage third-party supplier relationships, including the IT support company, software and hardware suppliers, e.g. video-conferencing, telephony, mobiles and printers

 

 

The post holder will be a CCAB qualified accountant (or international equivalent) with strong knowledge of accounting systems including Access Dimensions and FocalPoint, as well as advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint and Sharepoint).

It is crucial that the appropriate post holder will have gained extensive experience in a Charitable organisation as reporting on the requirements of Charity SORP is essential.
