We are very pleased to be working on an exclusive basis with this market leading international brand to recruit a qualified accountant and experienced people manager to join the group as Head of General Accounting, the role is hybrid mix of work from home and at their modern offices near Colchester, Essex.
Your new role
As Head of the General Accounting team - UK Accounting Shared Services Centre you will have responsibility for the effective and efficient service delivery of key finance functions, including timely and accurate reporting, to the international group and subsidiary interests in the UK.
Managing a team of 26 people including 6 direct reports, this critical role will deliver SLA services, controls and compliance activities to drive the future success of UK Accounting Shared Service Centre and help to establish the Centre as a Centre of Excellence for the International Group in the UK region.
What you'll need to succeed
Reporting directly into the Head of Accounting Services, this role would suit a technically proficient finance professional, with excellent management skills. An effective team player and strong communicator, you will possess the natural ability to forge long standing business relationships, underpinned and governed by Service Level Agreement delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Be the lead contact and establish strong relationships with all of the Group clients. Working closely with them to provide excellent accounting solutions.
- Lead and develop the General Accounting team of 6 direct and 20 indirect reports.
- Ensuring proper and timely accounting and reporting of all companies where reporting is carried out by UK Accounting Shared Service Centre. This includes coordination of the closing and reporting process of all companies.
- Day to day delivery of client Management Accounting and Financial Accounting activities through strong foundations of Balance Sheet control
- Responsible for ensuring all key controls are performed as documented and tested to schedule and ensure correct application of Group Accounting Policies
- Maintain a high level of credibility and manage strong working relationships with external parties including clients and advisors
- Direct & steer Internal and External audits
- In partnership with internal stakeholders, ensure that the regulatory requirements of all statutory bodies are complied with
- Manage the completion of Statutory Accounts, audit and filing across the client base.
- Continuous improvement of process quality and efficiency; cost centre / revenue planning and compliance with agreed cost centre targets
- Monitoring the timeliness, completeness and compliance of process documentation and work instructions, the effectiveness of the Internal Control System and the provision of verifying documentation
- Assist with Project Management of future client transitions into the UK Accounting Shared Service Centre Framework
- Bank authorisation in accordance with approval mandate.
Personal Characteristics
- Demonstrable ability to build and maintain strong working relationships at a variety of levels throughout the Framework Agreement
- Excellent communication skills and customer orientation, strong persuasion, assertiveness, and teamwork skills
- Strong analytical skills, attention to detail and accuracy
- Extensive accounting knowledge and experience including IFRS
- Able to consistently meet strict deadlines and to produce high quality information
- Structured and disciplined in the approach to planning and organising workload and able to work under own initiative without supervision
- Proven leadership skills
- Very high level of quality awareness
- Able to manage multiple deadlines, projects and workloads
- Commercially motivated and able to challenge & probe current data and processes
- Strong process understanding and problem-solving skills
Experience Required
Essential:
- Qualified accountant with relevant post-qualification experience
- Extensive managerial experience
- Strong management skills
- Experience of working in multiple entity companies
- Advanced IT and systems skills e. Excel
- Experience of using SAP, Group reporting packages
Qualifications Required
Essential:
- An accountancy qualification - e. ICAEW, ACCA or CIMA
- A degree or equivalent
