My client a leading Lloyd's and company market insurer are investing in developing their understanding of Casualty risks.
This role, along with an Analyst and Head of Casualty Exposure Management, will drive the reporting, analytics and research of their key Casualty risks. This is a new discipline with a great opportunity to work on emerging areas of risk, and for the successful candidate a chance to be at the forefront of something that will become an established profession in future.
In the area of Natural Catastrophe risk my client has a mature process built on years of experience that helps them assess the bets they take and measure and hedge risk effectively. Casualty lines now represent a huge part of the companies GWP and net premium base and annual profits with plans for each of these to grow materially in the near future. Along with this growth in premium comes an increase in exposures. Their Casualty Realistic Disaster Scenarios (RDSs) are now in many cases larger than their natural catastrophe RDSs and they now have an ambition to develop an (at least) equivalent Risk Management program.
You will be responsible for;
Managing the reporting cycle of key RDSs, with the support of an analyst on data collection and aggregation
Communicating results in board papers and presenting research at exposure management group meetings
Supporting the Product Underwriting Governance process to define measures and operational processes needed to assess policy wordings for the purposes of exposure management
Providing independent challenge to underwriter driven assessments of tail risk and policy response under stressed scenarios
Understand the risk and support development of our scenario suite
Support horizon scanning activities, identifying emerging risks and linking them to our exposures
Working across stakeholders to ensure timely delivery of inputs into business processes, such as capital model runs, and business planning.
Candidate specific;
To be successful in this role you will need to be comfortable with uncertainty, often there will not be a right answer but better or worse ones. You will need to have experience delivering high quality reporting to senior management. The ideal candidate would have an underwriting, claims or legal background, with an ability to understand the legal underpinnings of the contracts that my client writes, and define measures and operating processes to help aggregate key characteristics in their policy wordings. You will need to be highly numerate, with the ability to spot when something doesn't feel right. You will also need to be a confident communicator and we will be working with people through new concepts so it is important you can develop relationships.
Knowledge and experience working in the Insurance industry is essential
Experience in claims, underwriting, or legal / policy wording would be very beneficial
Experience and/or knowledge of what an Exposure Management function does
Keen interest in Law / Current affairs / Politics, all on a worldwide level; appreciation of current economic, legal and scientific trends and application to insurance.
Ideally have a Degree in Law, Politics, Journalism, Economics or related subject.
Strong Excel skills
Strong communicator across multiple stakeholders and seniorities
Experience in managing reporting to senior management
Numerate, or able to work with analytical team to convert research findings into quantitative outputs
