Head of Finance

My client is a charity within the HE sector based in Cheltenham but open to candidates across the UK. This role will report to the interim Chief Executive Officer and will have line management responsibility for two finance staff.

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES

• Compiles and provides financial analysis, using key performance indicators, on a regular basis to senior leadership and the Board
• Complete a robust annual budget (on a stand alone basis) for approval by the Board
• Complete and report on financial forecasts as appropriate during the year
• Run a robust year end process, including preparation of the statutory accounts and returns to stakeholders, co-ordination of the audit and manage the relationships with auditors
• Maintain a robust set of internal controls within efficient financial processes, compliant with tax and other legislation
• Leads the preparation of the statutory accounts
• Prepares and reports to Audit Committee when necessary on audit actions, areas of risk and on the statutory accounts and returns
• Responsible for communicating financial activities with budget holders and senior management and developing reporting and communications to provide information to assist with decision making
• Oversight of the payroll and pension processes, ensuring timely, accurate and complete records, calculations and payments
• Promotes a collaborative and supportive spirit of team working within Finance.
• Any other reasonable duties to support effective team working across the organisation

My client is currently going through a merger and as such there will be other project based responsibilities:

• Work with the Deputy CFO and Director of tax, payroll & pensions to ensure a smooth transition.
• Working with external accountants to complete closing accounts - Agreeing an appropriate structure within the finance system
• Mapping and translating the budget into the new chart of accounts -
• Transferring payroll, pensions and tax records

PERSON SPECIFICATION ESSENTIAL

• Qualified member of a CCAB accountancy body or holder of an equivalent qualification.
• Experience in a finance function, financial and management accounting experience
• Experience of working with senior leaders and Board level reporting.
• Experience of delivering statutory reporting requirements for group and individual company accounts.
• Strategic level financial management skills.
• Working in the higher education, charity or government sectors
• Experience of mergers
• Work collaboratively

• Attend to detail whilst maintaining an overview of the purpose and direction of the work
• Display strong diplomacy and negotiation skills to deal with the more challenging issues
