About us:

The Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) plays a vital role in keeping Britain’s roads safe. Responsible for setting, testing and enforcing driver and vehicle standards across Great Britain, our vision is for safer drivers, safer vehicles and safer journeys for all. We employ over 4,900 people across Great Britain, who put road safety at the heart of everything we do, while giving our customers the best possible experience and making sure our services offer value for money. As a member of the Executive team, the Chief Financial Officer will need to be a role model for our culture aspirations of encouraging people to value and appreciate each other, being respectful, enabling and empowering people to do their jobs, working together across the agency and helping us to be ready for the future.

The role:

This is a pivotal point for DVSA and we are seeking an inspirational Chief Financial Officer as we move through a period of transformational change, adapting our service to exciting technological developments in the transport sector. Our critical role in responding to the changing needs of drivers, cyclists and vehicles and keeping our road network as one of the safest in the world, has never been more important.

Key responsibilities:

As Chief Financial Officer, you will be an Executive Board Director with responsibility for delivering the Agency’s strategic objectives across the Finance, Commercial and Assurance directorate; securing the agency’s financial sustainability; and transforming finance, commercial and assurance service delivery models continuously to improve services provided to internal and external customers. You will ensure financial stability, leading on our strategic financial planning, risk management, audit insights and investment and change governance. Leading our future fees strategy, you will ensure that we charge a fair price for each of our services and that the agency is on a sustainable financial footing. This Chief Financial Officer role also has collective responsibility as a Board member for the overall strategic direction and performance of DVSA.

The candidate:

To be successful in this Chief Financial Officer role, you will need to have a real appreciation of operational delivery, and what it takes to deliver support services that enable the business to work brilliantly – and so do the best for our customers. You will be committed to delivering better, faster and greater value, with an improvement mindset, always looking to learn from others and push the boundaries of what’s possible to get the best outcome. Strategically minded, you will also help us understand future revenue and cost projections, working with industry and the strategy team to help us model different future scenarios. You will need to be curious and outward-facing, whilst also making sure your teams remain inspired to perform at their best.

This Chief Financial Officer role represents an opportunity to impact on the nationwide services that all of us rely on to help keep Britain’s roads safe. If you feel you have the unique blend of skills and experience we need, we would like to hear from you.

The Civil Service is committed to becoming the most inclusive employer in the UK. We are committed to understanding, respecting and representing as broad a range of views and backgrounds as we have in UK society. We know that diverse perspectives and experiences are critical to an effective, modern Civil Service.
