Your New organisation
Southend-on-Sea City Council is a unitary authority based in the heart of the town centre. This diverse and busy town has a great seafront, public parks and leisure activities, competitive house pricing and excellent travel links, accessible via two train lines from Liverpool Street and Fenchurch Street. It offers traditional seaside living that makes it a fantastic place to live and work.
The Council delivers a wide range of vital services at the heart of the community, as well as investing in exciting and ambitious projects that keep Southend-on-Sea firmly on the map. The Council has high expectations for the future and is working with local partners and local communities to ensure we deliver our exciting ambition for what the Borough will be like by 2050.
Your new role
Southend City Council is seeking to recruit an Internal Audit Manager. The Internal Audit team is highly regarded by its clients due to the nature and quality of work undertaken, and the support and challenge the team provides. In recent years, high-profile audits and investigations have further raised the profile and credibility of the team.
Reporting to the Head of Service you will share management responsibilities with another Audit Manager for supervising team members to effectively deliver audit work in compliance with professional standards, while supporting and encouraging their ongoing professional and personal development. You will also supervise contractors to deliver audits on behalf of the team and contribute to the associated contract letting and contract management responsibilities.
The Audit Manager is a key player in understanding the risk and challenges faced by our clients, developing audit plans accordingly and allocating resources to team members or contractors appropriately. You will help drive the team to continue in their pursuit to provide a high quality, independent, objective internal audit service to our clients, that adds value as well as helps ensure their business is managed both efficiently and cost effectively.
What you'll need to succeed
You must be a qualified auditor or accountant, ideally with experience of local government internal audit, however if you have external audit experience and can demonstrate transferrable skills then we welcome your application.
You will need an understanding of the operations of local government and the statutory framework within which it operates, and an understanding of governance, risk and internal control and how that facilitates organisations to operate in the way they are expected. An ability to communicate with colleagues at all levels in the organisation, both to obtain the information required to deliver the work of the team and to provide feedback on the findings of that work, in a way that influences others to respond effectively.
Southend-on-Sea City Council is looking for people to drive positive change whilst delivering results, building great relationships within the organisation and delivering a quality service to the senior team.
What you'll get in return
They are offering a competitive salary from £46,662 - £51,730 dependent on expertise. For all successful candidates a career development plan is in place to ensure there are opportunities to develop further.
You will be able to work in a flexible manner, whether remotely or office based, dependant on your location. When joining Southend City Council, you can enjoy a range of benefits including: flexible working, salary sacrifice scheme and excellent training and development opportunities. Minimum 29 days annual leave (rising with continuous Local Authority service) plus an excellent pension scheme.
