Succession Partners are retained to support a successful privately owned services business (£15m T/O) in appointing a Financial Controller (no1 in finance) into the business. In a newly created role, the financial controller will be a key appointment into the senior leadership team and will play a key role in supporting the Board in further developing the business, and across all strategic and operational matters.
The Financial Controller will be responsible for developing and professionalising the Finance function and other back-office functions including, Legal HR, Admin and Compliance.
The Financial Controller will be responsible for challenging the status quo - bringing in house key financial systems and processes, and improving systems, controls and documentation. In addition, they will be responsible for developing the business’ management information, developing insightful and timely financial information to support the Founders and Management in developing and growing the business, and driving margin improvements.
It is anticipated that the Financial Controller will be commercially and operationally minded, and client facing as required, which will include supporting the team when tendering and bidding for work.
Key responsibilities:
- A commercial leader within the business and be a key member of the Management Board
- Strategic planning, budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis
- Strong cash management and forecasting, including managing the sales ledger and credit control
- Bring in house financial accounting processes and reporting that is currently being undertaken externally including management accounting and annual and statutory reporting
- Developing the finance function, producing timely management and insightful management information to provide improved financial visibility and granularity on business performance, and support enhanced commercial decision making
- Develop KPI’s and commentary where appropriate to enhance business performance and support business development
- Responsibility and main point of contact for all statutory and compliance matters, including VAT, Tax and audit requirements
- External stakeholder management, including advisors, accountants, lawyers and bank
- Management and development of a small team of 4
Experience:
- Qualified finance professional (ACA, ACCA, CIMA)
- Minimum of six years of post-qualification experience in industry
- Experience in a hands on role leading and developing a small team
- Excellent numerical and budgeting skills
- Systems savvy, with experience of improving systems, controls and reporting
