SF Recruitment have partnered with a business based in Ilkeston who are looking for a Part Time Assistant Accountant to work around 30 hours a week, there is also the option to work from home after the training period. This is a newly created role due to increased workload.

Role:

 

  1. The business has grown in recent years and now requires an Assistant Accountant to help provide a solid backbone to the business, enabling it to improve its financial practices and performance.
  2. The successful candidate will work closely with all members of staff joining a friendly and inspirational team.


Job Purpose:


The role will be varied and will involve a number of duties to support the Finance Manager including;

  • Preparation of project reports for Senior Managers to ensure they have timely financial information for decision making purposes
  • Preparation of financial reports and claims to a variety of funders in line with contract agreements
  • Assistance with the improvement of the charity's financial reporting documents and procedures


Accounting:

  • Using data from Xero to accurately process reports to facilitate budget tracking and variance analysis
  • Assist with the preparation of quarterly management accounts
  • Assist and maintain systems of internal controls to safeguard financial assets, keeping and providing substantiating documentation to pass independent and governmental audits within current legislation
  • Ensure all aspects of Purchase Ledger and Sales Ledger are up to date and accurate
  • Perform routine calculations to produce analyses and reports as requested by the Finance Manager
  • Assist with the preparation of the annual accounts
  • Provide support to the activities of independent auditors ensuring compliance issues are met


Required experience of the Assistant Accountant:

  • At least two years' experience of financial management and accounting at an appropriate level in a college or university, local authority or preferably charity
  • Familiarity with cloud-based accountancy software and ideally Xero
  • Ability to accurately interpret complex information and recommend sound, well-considered decisions and judgements
  • Proven experience of managing a varied and heavy workload with changing priorities
  • At least AAT qualified, part qualified CIMA, ACA, ACCA, CIPFA or qualified by experience
  • Proven computer literacy, particularly in excel to produce accurate, clear and timely reports
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Exhibit honesty and integrity at all times
