Commercial Financial Controller (Managing Director Designate)

Their loyal client base comprises of global businesses who operate within the oil and gas exploration industry. As they continue to go through a period of substantial change, they have recognised the need to enhance the team by adding a multi-disciplinary senior manager to help drive a period of significant growth. The ideal candidate will have a strong Finance background with instinctive entrepreneurial flair. Specific Requirement:

In the first instance reporting to the Finance Director and CEO, you will be very hands on and part of the Senior Management Team, taking responsibility for the Finance and the Commercial/Strategic direction of the business. This will include…

• Contributing to the preparation of business plans, including product development, sales forecasts, the creation of cash flow forecasts and annual budgets.
• Preparation of monthly and year to date performance reports to the Board, including commentary, analysis and recommendations.
• Hands-on, all-encompassing finance tasks from day-to-day bookkeeping, reconciling bank accounts, VAT returns, to higher level production of Management Accounts.
• Point of contact with Stakeholders, External Accountants and the Banks, including provision of monthly business performance information to lenders and monitoring of business performance.
• Responsible for ensuring accuracy and consistency of the accounting systems (using SAP Business One), supported by a number of in-house IT systems.
• Involvement in manufacturing planning, providing input to the procurement, manufacturing and administrative functions.
• Regular liaison with non-finance, e.g. working closely with Production, Operations, R&D etc.
• Ad-hoc evaluation and analysis to support initiatives and investments in the business.
• After a period of product and cultural familiarisation, the emphasis may change to a more commercial role, with significant involvement in the sales process and day to day operations.

Skills & Experience required:

• Either Qualified (CIMA/ACMA/ACA/ACCA) or Qualified by Experience.
• Experience in a Manufacturing (or closely related industry) is preferred especially if this has included exposure to electronics and overseas activity, ideally the USA and Middle East.
• Previously operated at Financial Controller level (or equivalent), either within an SME or subsidiary of a larger business, where you’ve had a degree of autonomy.
• A working knowledge of SAP Business One will prove advantageous, but by no means essential. You must be highly proficient in Excel.
• Experience of day-to-day cash flow management is essential, preferably in a business where few, but large value transactions take place.
• Appreciate the challenges and complexities of a cyclical business.
• Able to command authority, credibility and earn respect, working with people at all levels across multiple functions and disciplines.
• Articulate and confident in preparing presentations for the Board, Banks and other stakeholders.
• Think outside the box, showing initiative and resourcefulness, with high energy, able to add real value during the exciting times ahead.
• Possess commercial acumen to help drive the business forward from a strategic footing.

What’s on Offer:

• A starting salary in the region of £60,000-£75,000, with the flexibility of increasing this for the right candidate.
