Financial Accountant

A rare opening at Plasser UK, a market-leading railway engineering business are now seeking a new Financial Accountant to join their ranks; this role offers the successful candidate the chance to further their financial career, working with and learning from the best.

Managing a small accounts team, this “hands-on" role requires all tasks within the accounts function to be completed in an efficient, accurate, and timely manner. Working closely with the Operations Department, the role will provide accounting and financial support to Operations ensuring that projects within the workshop are properly monitored and controlled from a budgeting viewpoint.

Your responsibilities:

The role will see the successful candidate report into the Finance Director, managing the day-to-day functions of the Accounts Department and bridging the gap between Finance and Operations. Accounts:

  • Reviewing and finalising monthly management accounts, and VAT Returns (UK and Ireland).
  • Reviewing credit control, debt management and venders / purchase ledger.
  • Updating and maintaining the Chart of Accounts
  • Conducting staff training and mentoring

 

Assisting the Finance Director with quarterly and annual group reporting:

  • Reconciliation of intercompany balances and transactions
  • Preparing analyses of sales and cost of sales for group reporting purposes
  • Converting the UK accounts to group reporting standards/format
  • Submit group reporting schedules to the group’s cloud consolidation software

 

Assisting the Finance Director with year-end statutory accounts and audit:

  • Preparing statutory accounts
  • Preparing of supporting working and papers and schedules
  • Conducting frontline liaison for year-end audit fieldwork


Operations;

To act as a link between Accounts and Operations and provide accounting and financial support to the Operations Department:

  • Attending weekly Operations' planning meetings
  • Working with Operational staff to prepare pricing and costings for tenders
  • Regular monitoring and review of ongoing project costs and comparing to budgets
  • Regular reviewing of WIP costs and WIP sales
  • Reviewing margins on completed projects
  • Ensuring timely invoicing on contracts and projects
  • Monitoring IT and Facilities costs, comparing actual spend to budgets

 

Your Profile:

To succeed in this Financial/ Operations Accountant position you'll be a Qualified ACCA (or equivalent) accountant with knowledge of Management and statutory accounts.  You will also have up-to-date knowledge of UK FRS, whilst an up-to-date understanding of UK Tax Requirements is desirable.
 

Essential experience:

  • At least five years of accounting-relevant experience
  • Management and statutory accounts preparation
  • Group reporting and Analytical skills experience
  • Experience working with operational staff and running a small accounts office.

Working Hours:

Mon - Thurs 8am to 4:45pm, Fri 8am to 12noon.
