Head of Finance

£70,000 - £90,000 per annum

Full Time

Our client is a market-leading, fast-growing, profitable, software-as-a-service (SaaS) business in the property market, and they’re looking to grow significantly over the next two to three years. They’re a lovely team of people with a fantastic company culture that they want to retain as they grow - ambitious, hard-working and collaborative yet respectful of work-life balance. You can expect to feel welcomed and supported by some truly talented people, in a company that is constantly innovating.

They are looking for a new Head of Finance to support the business during a critical time of growth. This role will require you to work with the whole management team, but particularly with the MD and Operations Board, as well as the Finance Manager (FM).

This role will require you to pull up your sleeves and get stuck in, but as you build the right processes for day-to-day finance, you’ll be able to step up into a more forward looking role with the emphasis shifting onto reporting and analysis. This is a fantastic opportunity for the right person to take on a broad and challenging role. The business operates on a fully remote basis but some travel may be required for team meetings in the SE of England (typically).

Typical job tasks will include but are not limited to:

  • Weekly, monthly and quarterly reporting against budget and forecast including:

    • Preparation of weekly operating report to cover finance and key operational departments
    • Preparation of monthly management accounts (including balance sheet reconciliations) and monthly operating control reports within 5-7 working days of month end
    • Monthly budget vs. actual variance reporting

  • Suggest improvements in and implement a financial controls structure including:
  • Formal roll out of budgets to budget holders
  • Sign off authorities to be established and limits set
  • A more robust sign off process for purchase ledger invoices
  • Day to day management of sales and purchases, assisted by the FM, including data entry, credit control and reconciliations where required
  • Overall responsibility for reconciliations between the invoicing system (bespoke in house) and the finance system (currently Xero)
  • Process management and development to ensure finance-related processes are quicker, slicker and more accurate
  • Roll out of a new ERP system (late 2023, early 2024) across the business
  • Any other ad hoc reporting as discussed

They’re looking for someone who has:

  • 5+ years of experience working within a finance department of a small business, ideally owner managed
  • Advanced MS Excel / Google Sheets experience including formulae and pivot tables
  • Dedication and is self-motivated, driven by their need to be the best they can be and continuously improve themself/processes
  • A strong work ethic but can enjoy their work too!

It would be a bonus if they also have:

  • Experience of building a future-proofed finance function for a high growth technology business
  • SaaS experience
  • A formal accounting qualification (CIMA/ACA/ACCA)
  • People management experience
  • Experience of Xero
  • People who thrive in this role are organised, experienced and self-aware. They are excited by the idea of working for a growing scale-up whose work is fast-paced but high quality. They also embody the company values of being driven, open, polished and pioneering.

Can’t tick every box? That’s fine - it’s more important to our client to find the right person to join the team. They welcome applications from people who may not meet the brief completely or who may have a slightly different background, including those who bring extra skills or experience to the table. The salary ranges reflect the skills they think they will find but they are flexible within reason and are open to discussing flexible/part time working arrangements. If that sounds like you, they’d love to learn more about you and what you think you can bring to this role.

They interview on a rolling basis as applications come in, so please do apply as soon as you can so they can meet you!
