Payroll & Pensions Assistants needed in public sector organisation!

Sheffield based public sector organisation providing critical support services, with a reputation for great benefits.
Your new role
You will be supporting the payroll function by providing end to end payroll services and deal with day-to-day tasks within pensions.
Provide an accurate and timely payroll service for all employees and
Pensioners.
Assist with the development, maintenance and administration of the Payroll System.
Accurately calculate and record both statutory and company payments i. SSP, SMP, in
accordance with internal and external regulations.
Perform accurate calculation for all Statutory Payments, having a clear understanding of
regulations and apply rules to reconcile data for payments, both to employees and HMRC.
Balance and reconcile all pay variances, both permanent and temporary data, run reports
within the payroll system and use a number of different balance sheets to reconcile, using
analytical skills to interrogate data, investigate anomalies and apply system changes where
applicable.
Verify temporary and permanent salary changes, including the responsibility for
balancing payrolls, checking of variance/anomaly reports, correction of errors to enable payroll
to be balanced for review by the Senior Payroll and Pensions Officer.
Be responsible for ensuring all payroll and pensions calculations are in accordance with
relevant legislation.
Verify and create third party payments in relation to deductions taken from salary, to be
raised and paid meeting legislation guidelines.
Manage and maintain the day-to-day payroll tasks to ensure payroll processing deadlines
are adhered to.
Maintain and update worker and pensioner records on the Payroll system, keeping
relevant internal and external departments aware of changes to specific areas.
Provide pensions estimates and benefit statements, together with new starter, leaver and
salary change notifications to administrators. Also to provide additional ill health and injury estimates as and when requested on behalf of HR.
Deal with all day-to-day aspects of Pension administration, GMP system updates and
setting up of new pension records together with annual Pension Increase updates. To create
and reconcile monthly Pension returns for schemes in accordance with statutory legislation. To prepare HMRC and Pension payments for approval.
Deal with queries from both internal and external sources in relation to PAYE, NI, Pension
together with any other payroll and pension related items. To support the Payroll and Pensions
Officer in the effective management of the customer service function of the team.
Liaise with external and internal customers to include Inland Revenue, DSS, Pensions
Authority, HR, Management, staff and pensioners.
Data processing ensuring compliance with organisational policies and procedures (i. data protection).
What you'll need to succeed
This role will be end-to-end payroll so experience of this kind of work is essential. Excel skills are a must! Training will be available for the pensions side of the role but experience here would be desirable.
