About the Job and department

This is an excellent opportunity to join a newly formed team and shape the approach to managing the University’s financial control risk exposure. Reporting to the Head of Finance (Assurance), the successful candidate will work closely with the Finance Manager (Assurance), to review financial control processes across the University.

Supporting the Finance Manager (Assurance), the Finance Compliance Officer (Assurance) will undertake financial control compliance assurance testing as part of the agreed financial assurance workplan, providing assurance that departments are complying with the University’s Financial Regulations and Procedures and financial control processes, and that they are operating as intended.

This post will provide first line responses to the Financial Regulations queries, acting as an approachable yet authoritative source of expertise, and maintaining management information to inform Financial Regulations reporting.

This position contributes to the departmental objective of creating a long-term sustainable financial platform required for future growth, by continuously reviewing financial control processes and implementing solutions to improve efficiency and effectiveness across the University. This post provides an in-depth grounding in financial control and is ideal for candidates wanting to specialise in assurance or indeed work in a range of finance functions.

What are we looking for in the ideal candidate?

Educated to degree level or equivalent, the successful candidate will draw on their expertise gained in working within an accounts or financial audit or assurance function. Ideally, the successful candidate will be in the final stages of, or holding CCAB or CIMA recognised accountancy qualification, or demonstrate a genuine desire to follow this path.

The successful candidate will have an excellent working understanding of the nature and purpose of financial controls and their relationship to the management of financial risk as well as the ability to interpret and communicate detailed and precise financial policies and procedures.

The Finance Compliance Officer (Assurance) will build highly effective relationships with departmental colleagues, challenging constructively and working collaboratively to develop practical solutions to operational issues.

The appointed candidate will be required to work from the University of Warwick campus for a minimum of three set days per week on a Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. The hybrid working model could be subject to change.
