A FTSE 100 business is looking to recruit a EMEA VAT Director to join their London office.

Responsibilities Include

Being responsible for indirect tax relating to the entities in this region and providing advice related to the compliance nature of the business.

Advising on the accurate indirect tax treatment for products in the region and working with the Indirect Tax Systems Director to implement them accordingly.

Taking ownership of key indirect tax positions and decisions made. Ensuring these are documented and communicated with the team.

Participating with other regional Indirect Tax leads and the Indirect Tax Advisory Director to establish regional strategic plans and objectives as they fit into the global environment

Working with the Indirect Tax Advisory Director and Indirect Tax Systems Director on:

  • Integration of new businesses within the region.
  • Advising on and implementing new tax regimes in the region, including DST and offshore ESS registrations.

Being responsible for the VAT returns for all UK entities, ensuring filings are compliant and timely, including:

  • Handling the partial exemption method for the group and negotiating outstanding positions with HMRC
  • Managing the irrecoverable VAT position of the Group and ensuring relevant partners and budget holders are informed and aware of the position.
  • Maintaining the appropriateness of the VAT group position and leading on any projects relating to VAT group changes
  • Taking ownership of the indirect tax controls for the region, in particular adherence to SAO.
  • Leading on audits in the region. Coordinating the identification of any audit exposures, working with other members of Tax and communicating with the relevant groups for corrective action. Including keeping tax audit trackers updated appropriately.

Key Skills And Qualifications

  • You will be qualified with a strong indirect tax advisory background, with a minimum of EMEA experience but more global preferred.
  • You will have experience in partial exemption and be able to communicate this to HMRC and the business.
  • Have experience leading projects with external advisors to drive projects forward with practical advice and within budget.
  • Commercially focused with a proactive approach to finding solutions and be able to make decisions that meet indirect tax requirements and business priorities.
  • A high level of interpersonal skills and an ability to function optimally as part of a distributed team that coordinates, works, and reports out of different geographies. And to communicate technical indirect tax concepts to non-specialists and to senior levels of management.
