A global business is looking to recruit a Group Tax Accountant to join their team in Belfast.

This new position will be semi-autonomous but supporting and reporting into the Corporate Tax Team in London. This individual will have primary responsibility for managing the outsourced service provision of tax reporting and compliance (corporate tax and indirect taxes) for the Group outside the US and UK - primarily the Asia-Pacific region. There is scope for additional responsibilities within the overall remit of the international tax team, according to the individual's experience/areas of interest.

  • Will act as primary lead in the corporation tax and VAT/GST return processes.
  • Provide tax input for entity-level financial statements in accordance with accounting timetable - tax notes/disclosures, respond to auditor questions etc.
  • Assist in the preparation of the quarterly and annual tax provision (ASC 740 accounting) for the Group and affiliates including maintenance of well documented, supporting work papers as need. Process reconciliations and journal entry adjustments.
  • Analyse processes, maintain documentation thereof and recommend improvements.
  • Assists in controversial matters with governmental agencies including responding to notices or requests from tax authorities with focus on strategy and tact eliminating/minimising tax liabilities while replying in a timely manner and contributing to developing strategy and tactics.

Examples of other areas for involvement (experience of any would be beneficial):

  • Actively participate and support tax planning, research projects and collaborations with auditing, accounting, and other departments on tax related issues to evaluate the impact to the Group and its subsidiaries (e. company eliminations, reorganisations).
  • Involvement in UK corporate tax and VAT compliance processes, currently managed in-house in London (e. Controlled Foreign Company reviews).
  • Transfer pricing compliance (documentation and Country by Country submissions) and planning.

Skills & Software Requirements:

  • Accountancy qualification from a recognised body is required. Some tax experience and/or qualification would be strongly preferred.
  • PC skills with proficient knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Word and Excel required.
  • Experience with financial systems in general is required; specific familiarity with Workday is not expected but would be helpful.
